About Potential Energy

Potential Energy is a nanotech spin-off from London South Bank University, exploring the possibility of generating power from the vibration of infrastructure systems.

In 2023, we were awarded £25,000 through the Catapult Transport Research & Innovation Grant (TRIG) program, funded by the UK's Department of Transport.

This funding has enabled Potential Energy to build a prototype device as proof of concept, what we call the RailPower product. This is a device that mounts on the rail web and captures the vibration energy that is created when a train passes along the railway tracks.

With our technology at TRL 4, Potential Energy has validated RailPower in a laboratory environment. We now seek international partners in railway infrastructure operations to begin our next round of development.
